The formal evening, and the one everybody photographs.
The reception is the function with the largest guest count, the longest queue and the least forgiving light. Everything about it is designed around two things: how the stage photographs, and how quickly four hundred people can greet a couple without the line reaching the car park.
Stage lighting is set to flatter faces rather than flood them. Backdrops are composed at the scale of the room, not of an empty photograph. Florals are chosen to survive five hours under warm light.
The room is also lit for the guests, not only the stage — the most common reception mistake is a beautiful stage in a dark hall.
